Welcome

Welcome to Holverson Music. This is a new website, so come back often for updates. I've enjoyed playing the piano for many years. In my late 20s I took my first stab at music composition by putting a poem to music. Over time I became more interested in writing and arranging music. Most of my songs are religious in nature, but others aren't. Take a look around the website and let me know what you think. Come back soon, as I'll be posting additional songs.

Child of God Lullaby

The idea for this song came to me several years ago. Somehow the song "I Am a Child of God" sounded like "Cradle Song" by Johannes Brahms, the latter sometimes being referred to simply as Brahms' Lullaby. I worked on it then and didn't do much with it. More recently I brushed it up and got permission to arrange it. It is available for piano to accompany a duet, and as a piano with violin or flute descant. I'm hoping to get it recorded at some point. I'm thinking of using a soprano and a tenor, but have thought about other combinations such as a parent and child since "I Am a Child of God" is from the perspective of a child and "Brahms' Lullaby is from the perspective of a parent, so I think that would be a neat arrangement.

First recordings made!

My daughter and I went to Rosewood Recording Studio this morning. I had a great experience making my first recordings. Guy explained everything and was very easy to work with. I now have not only sheet music, but some MP3 downloads as well.

Recording music

After receiving feedback from many of you I've decided to have some songs professionally recorded. I have an appointment with a recording studio that has a Yamaha C7 grand piano! Those are great sounding pianos. I'm very excited to play on it and have them record a couple of songs. I'm not too savvy on which file formats people prefer to use. I automatically think of MP3. I've read that it isn't the best, but that most people can't hear a difference. I am wondering - Which file formats do you use most often? and What where do you download music? I can obviously put it directly on my website, but am thinking about iTunes as well. Let me know what you think!

music trouble

I've liked music for longer than I can remember. My mother tells me that when she was pregnant with me I would "dance" whenever an organ or piano was played at church. I don't remember that, so I'll take her word for it. I do remember always wanting to get close enough to play whatever piano I saw, even as young as 3 or 4. I would somehow make my way over to the piano and start making noise with the keys. I would twirl the piano stool higher and lower, and play with the piano as long as I was allowed to. Anybody else out there get in trouble for playing pianos at a young age?
